"Slow Crafting VR: Hand-Drawn Textures and Worlds" by Beatriz Ruthes at Blender Conference 2025

In this talk, Beatriz Ruthes shares her process of building a VR environment entirely in Blender, in which every object and texture originates from hand-drawn illustrations on paper. Developed during an experimental artist residency in Luxembourg, the project explores how traditional techniques can bring warmth, intimacy and emotional resonance to digital spaces.
She walks through her workflow, from digitizing drawings to modeling, texturing, testing scale and atmosphere using Blender's VR add-on, while reflecting on how creative limitations shaped the project's visual language.
The presentation also addresses the experience of working independently with minimal resources and how artisanal processes can coexist with immersive technologies to create uniquely personal virtual worlds.
