Two years ago, our SLAM tracking was just okay. Today, it’s precise and stable — as shown at the start of this video.
In this video, we break down the major fixes our engineers made over the past two years:
Jitter – Introduced line feature tracking (walls, door frames) for more visual anchors, plus nearly two years of steady work to eliminate stationary micro‑jitters.
Drift – A 2024 optimization cut drift/tilt significantly. Added independent exposure adaptation so bright lights and windows no longer trigger drift. Long‑session stability is now where we want it.
Relocalization – Offline relocalization (shipped July 2024) automatically restores your boundary after power cycles. Later updates improved accuracy and speed.
Aim Stability – Completely rebuilt controller detection logic to fix cross‑controller confusion, improved occlusion and bright‑light handling, enhanced extended‑arm aiming, and made re‑acquisition much faster.
We’re still working on more, but we’re proud of the progress.
Plus: Hand tracking powered by SLAM has made a real breakthrough — lower latency, better accuracy, new gesture controls. More details in a future video.
