A playthrough of Digital Pictures' 1995 license-based FMV game for PCs running Dos, Slam City with Scottie Pippen.

This video shows the entire game. Like my playthrough of the Sega CD version (youtu.be/Mjv0t0OMCBw), this one begins with a game played against each of the four main opponents, all on the default settings:

Vs. Fingers 1:26
Vs. Maddog 7:41
Vs. Juice 10:51
Vs. Smash 14:06

Then, at 17:34, I switch to 21-point bucket games and play until I've accrued the billion respect points required to take on Pippen.

Vs. Scottie Pippen 1:25:02

There were two versions of the game produced for the PC. They made one for Pentiums and another for 486s. This video shows the Pentium version.

When this shipped in the spring of 1995, I believe it was the first commercially released PC game to ever require a Pentium processor. How's that for a weird place in gaming history for a Scottie Pippen FMV game to occupy?

I already spoke at length about the game mechanics in the description for my video of the Sega CD version, so I won't repeat it all here. It plays the same.

The main difference is the video quality. The Sega CD game's FMVs ran in a small window at a much lower resolution, framerate, and color depth, and the sound quality was pretty crunchy. The 32X version was a nice upgrade, but if you want to see Slam City with Scottie Pippen at its best, the Dos version is where it's at (until the remastered "Respect Edition" comes out later this year, at least).

The improvements made to the video and audio quality have a huge impact on the feel of the game. It's so much easier to play when you can make out the subtle movements and spoken lines that telegraph your opponents' moves.

If you want to play Slam City with Scottie Pippen, do yourself a favor and skip the console versions. It's a much, much better experience on the PC.

You can find a compilation I made of the game's interstitial cutscenes at youtu.be/2VHUkuUcHhw
