SkyFire Energy, Alberta's oldest solar company, is pivoting from the Alberta market through the acquisition of Hakai Energy Solutions, which gives them access to coastal BC markets. The move is in the wake of Alberta's tanking utility-scale solar industry, brought on by a government hostile to renewable energy. The industry was booming just a few years ago.
Ironically, while utility-scale is tanking, a record 10,000 Albertans installed rooftop solar on their homes and businesses last year. And David Vonesch, CEO, says they are also still quite active in the commercial solar market.
