My father’s Škoda Octavia 2 Facelift developed an airbag warning light on the dashboard, with fault code 01221 stored in the airbag module. In this video I show the real cause of the problem and how I fixed it.

The issue turned out to be damaged wiring to the side impact (door) airbag sensor, located inside the flexible rubber wiring boot between the door and the chassis. Over time, the factory wiring hardens, cracks, and the copper inside corrodes due to constant door movement. This eventually causes an intermittent or permanent airbag fault.

⚠️ This is a very common problem on Octavia Mk2 / Mk2 Facelift, and many cars will develop it as they age.
