Skin cancer rates are at a record high, with almost 90% of cases due to overexposure to UV rays from the sun and sunbeds. Yet, despite these alarming statistics, trends such as the ‘anti sunscreen movement’ have amassed 107 million posts online, with claims that SPF can prevent vitamin D absorption and contains harmful chemicals. Additionally, sunbeds have been trending online, with a recent study claiming that sunbeds could benefit people living in gloomier parts of the UK. So what’s the truth behind these confusing messages? Dr Nighat’s advice includes whether we should wear SPF all year round.
