It's been a while since I played this but I always regarded thsi as being one of my favourite RPGs. Coming back to it I still loved the characters, the map, music, story and discoveries. The battles I probably enjoyed less, while the encounter rate is high it's how basic the battle system is that let's it down. Magic is weak, and special movies walk all over them. Another anoyance was the enemy moves. While in the first dungeon I encounted a snake that sent me to sleep and I could do nothing but watch as it kept repeatly attacking me until I was dead. Early monsters also have instant death spells that not only work most of the time but you only normally have access to revives that work 50% of the time which would leave you in a bad state if it missed.
For this run I play through the story, I get at least 60 of the 64 discovieries I think. I missed one in the ice continent, while I can't think of the others I missed. I generally got them when they were available or I waited until I could go above and below the clouds to avoid battles. I cut out a lot of battles as the encounter rate is quite high. If there was a new monsters or a story battle I kept it in, while repeatitive monsters or while search for discoveries I cut them out. Battles last a long time and could contribute to adding another 10 hours to this video.
