In 1995, glam metal was dead, grunge ruled rock radio, and Skid Row returned with Subhuman Race—an album that sounded nothing like “18 and Life.”
Tracks like “My Enemy,” “Bonehead,” “Medicine Jar,” and the title song were vicious—more aggressive, more cynical, and built for mosh pits instead of MTV.
But the timing was a disaster. Subhuman Race stalled at number 35 on the Billboard 200 and failed to reach gold status—tiny numbers compared with Skid Row’s multi-platinum early years.
Even worse, tensions inside the band were boiling over. Sebastian Bach left Skid Row the following year, making this the final full studio album from the classic lineup.
