The Skellig Islands Boat Tour is an amazing experience, not just because you get to see Skellig Michael (Star Wars Island), but because far before Luke Skywalker made this island an attraction, it was already designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The neighboring Little Skellig, one of the largest bird sanctuaries of northern gannets in the world, is equally incredible and equally covered in copious amounts of bird poop. Unfortunately, we were unable to score tickets for the landing tour, but highly suggest the boat tour regardless, because the views were spectacular. The Skellig Islands are located in County Kerry, Ireland along the Wild Atlantic Way and the boat tours depart from the town of Portmagee.
This video is the nineteenth of a daily video series of our travels to Ireland and Northern Ireland in June of 2018. From walking the lush greenery in the rugged hills and glens, hiking the breathtaking cliffs and coastal mountains, exploring caves and crags and remote off-shore islands, to the castles and ruins and hallmarks of pre-neolithic civilizations, we can honestly say it was one of the best times we have ever had. And do you know what was the most beautiful about the Emerald Isle? The people. In the cities or the countryside, to the north and the south, in pubs, tea rooms or during a walk. Some of the most warm, kind, affable (and usually very funny) people you will ever meet are in Ireland, and they'll be sure to fill you in on where all the good craic is.
