I didn't mention this in the review, but this novel features Xanth's first gay character (Santo, who was introduced in Five Portraits) and introduces Xanth's first transgender character. I'm not convinced Anthony handles either topic well, but since I'm neither I'm not the one to judge.

If you want to skip the "Just OK" novels in the Xanth series, I suggest reading the first 16, Yon Ill Wind (#20), Pet Peeve (#29) and then start with Five Portraits (#39) and finish the series. You may want to read Two to the Fifth (#32) as well because Ragna Roc is a major character in Fire Sail (#42) and Jest Right (#43). Please note that Two to the Fifth is my least favorite Xanth novel (the only 2 star) because of questionable content.
