Skandhas are translated as "aggregates" or "heaps". They are interrelated and impermanent aspects of human existence.
1. Form (rupa): the physical body and the material world.
2. Sensation (vedana): pleasure, pain, or neutrality in response to sensory stimuli.
3. Perception (samjna): interpretation of sensory stimuli.
4. Mental formations (samskara): thoughts, emotions, attitudes, and mental habits.
5. Consciousness (vijnana): awareness that arises dependent on the interaction between the senses and perceived objects.
These are called the Five Aggregates of Clinging.
