A family from Birmingham have been left homeless after a major fire destroyed a row of six houses following a suspected arson attack.

The blaze broke out in a park in Highters Heath before spreading rapidly across grassland and into nearby homes.

Around 50 residents were evacuated and two people were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

West Midlands Fire Service said six properties were destroyed and confirmed it is investigating whether the fire was deliberately started.
