"The House of the Rising Sun" is a traditional folk song, sometimes called "Rising Sun Blues". It tells of a life gone wrong in New Orleans; many versions also urge a sibling to avoid the same fate. The most successful commercial version, recorded in 1964 by the British rock group the Animals.
Sivert Høyem is a Norwegian singer, best known as the vocalist of the rock band Madrugada. After the band broke up following the death of Robert Burås in 2007, he has enjoyed success as a solo artist and is also a member of The Volunteers with whom he released the album Exiles in 2006.
lyrics :
There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And Lord I know I'm one
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Live your life in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun
I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm going down to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
There is a house in New Orleans
They call it the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And Lord I know I'm one
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And Lord I know I'm one
