Torrefied Sitka spruce and black limba (also known as korina) bring an inspiring new look and acoustic voice to this easy-playing 10-string Bajo Quinto. In this episode of The Art of Acoustic, we shine light on a unique double-course instrument that blends traditional design with contemporary innovation. This custom SOMOS™ Collection instrument is ideal for players experimenting with new sonic textures, tunings and styles of music and musicians familiar with Norteño and other regional Mexican genres. With five double courses tuned in fourths; from lowest course to highest (A-D-G-C-F), its octave pairings on the low end and unison pairs above create a bold, rhythmic texture that has traditionally accompanied a bass guitar and accordion. A shaded edgeburst finish and ivoroid binding evoke classic acoustic design, while 5-Star inlays add a distinctive modern edge. Rounded body contours and a slender Taylor neck ensure that comfort meets clarity in every register.
