Vatican Museums Director Barbara Jatta said conservators have begun extraordinary maintenance on Michelangelo’s “Last Judgment” in the Sistine Chapel, focusing on lifting a thin whitish surface film. She said test cleanings showed improved results and that the work is expected to wrap up in about five weeks, with the fresco fully visible again by Holy Week.
