JOHN GIELGUD (Sir) - English actor, director, and producer. Gielgud achieved early acclaim for his youthful, emotionally expressive HAMLET. He became known for his beautiful speaking of verse. His warm and expressive voice was likened by his colleague Sir Alec Guiness to "a silver trumpet muffled in silk". Gielgud won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for ARTHUR in 1981.
