Sir J.J. Thomson presented to the world the first atomic model, i.e., the Plum-Pudding Model, which appeared in a paper published in the Philosophical Magazine in March 1904.

Plum pudding is an English dessert similar to a blueberry muffin. In Thomson's plum pudding model of the atom, the electrons were embedded in a uniform sphere of positive charge like blueberries stuck into a muffin. The positive matter was thought to be jelly-like or a thick soup. The electrons were somewhat mobile. As they got closer to the outer portion of the atom, the positive charge in the region was greater than the neighbouring negative charges and the electron would be pulled back more toward the centre region of the atom.

Thomson’s atomic model postulates that an atom resembles a positive-charged sphere with electrons (negatively charged particles) present within the sphere.
Because the magnitude of the positive and negative charges is equal, an atom has no charge overall and is electrically neutral.
Limitations
It failed to explain atomic stability because his atomic model failed to explain how a positive charge holds negatively charged electrons in an atom. As a result, this theory also failed to account for the nucleus’s position in an atom.
Thomson’s model was unable to account for the scattering of alpha particles by thin metal foils.
There is no experimental evidence to back it up.

Even though Thomson’s atomic model was inaccurate and had a few drawbacks, it provided the base for several other atomic structure models afterward. It is one of the foundation models that led to significant and revolutionary inventions later.
