In the middle decades of the twentieth century, the threat posed by aliens was taken very seriously, not merely by UFO researchers, but by senior government officials and scientists - including those involved in the development of the nuclear bomb. The origin of this interest can be found in some of the greatest UFO mysteries of all time, namely the mass appearance of strange green fireballs over nuclear military testing grounds.
