Fifth in a new series of videos designed to teach solfege to absolute beginners by singing simple, familiar songs on solfege as a way of introducing and reinforcing the syllables. Later videos will build on these skills as they become more familiar.
In this video, we'll sing Yankee Doodle. No new concepts to discuss, but you might pay attention to which sections of the song hang around the tonic triad and which sections do not. The ones that do probably sound more stable to your ears, while TI and RE both feel unstable, and leave us wanting to go back to DO. That tension and resolution is part of what can make music enjoyable.
