These non-theatrical reissue titles to The China Plate (1931) were made by the Disney studio for its inclusion in the Kodascope Libraries in 1936. That year, Kodascope offered twelve complete Disney shorts, with sound, for rental on 16mm, followed by another twelve in 1937. All of them were black-and-white shorts originally released by Columbia in 1930–1932.
Kodascope Libraries was a division of the Eastman Kodak Company, and it appears that consumers could only rent the films at a limited number of Kodak-owned camera stores across the US.
Then, sometime in the late 1940s, G.B. Equipments (owned by the Rank Organisation) started offering Disney shorts for rental in the UK, and many Kodascope versions seem to have been among them. Incredibly enough, the very same 36 black-and-white shorts listed in G.B.’s 1950 16mm catalogue were still available more than 30 years later, as evidenced by their 1983 catalogue.
