In late 1961 something weird happened. Engineers from the AiResearch company approached a successful Arizona drag racing team and offered them the chance to make history. What was it? The shot to use compressed air and jet engine turbine starters to power their car.
Sounds insane right? Well? It worked! This is the story of two dragsters which were among the fastest of their day and which did not employ a piston engine to do it. They made little noise, but they made huge waves in the sport sometimes for the right, and sometimes for the wrong reasons.
