Filmmaker and content creator Sidney Diongzon recently discovered the awesome power a Ninja V/V+ can bring to his trusty Sony A7SIII. Intrigued by the capabilities promised by connectivity and the implications for remote editing, Sidney decided to test the ultimate upgrade module for Ninja V/V+, ATOMOS CONNECT. Three friends from across North America were enlisted to participate in camera-to-cloud collaboration, and they were all were amazed at how this new workflow can cut down both production and post-production times.
Sidney first runs through the main features of the ATOMOS CONNECT, including support for more camera models with a 12G-SDI port, as well as SDI to HDMI cross-conversion. Sidney also comments on the addition of two WiFi-6 antennae for livestreaming and camera-to-cloud workflows, and the AirGlu™ antenna for synchronization of timecode between multiple devices and support for the AtomRemote app. Sidney was pleased to see an RJ45 Ethernet port that can be used for wired connection to the internet when in a studio environment.
Impressed by the physical features of the module, Sidney decides that it’s time to test Adobe camera-to-cloud workflows with Frame.io, which allows you to send proxy files from your Ninja to anyone in the world for almost instantaneous access. The first test is from Sidney’s studio in Dallas, Texas, to Jay Lippeman in Colombus, Ohio. Both were surprised by how fast the proxy clips appeared in Jay’s project bin. The second test is with long-time Atomos enthusiast PhotoJoseph, based in Portland, Oregon. Sidney ended the recording on his Ninja in Dallas, and again, both were amazed by how fast these clips appeared in PhotoJoseph’s Frame.io account for him to download and edit. The final test is with Michael Tobin in Toronto, Canada. The same test is repeated, and the same results are replicated, leaving Sidney and Michael extremely excited by the potential of this innovative technology.
