How does the Shure SM4 Dual Condenser microphone sound compared to a single diaphragm and a dynamic mic.? In this video you'll learn about Shure's newest dual microphone technology, what it does and how it sounds compared to similar mics. See all my gear at kit.co/rayortega

The Shure SM4 is a dual diaphragm, cardioid, condenser microphone that takes the place of the now discontinued Shure SM27.

The dual diaphragm technology in this mic. allow it to control many of the issues you can experience in the lower end of the frequency range with cardioid microphones such as plosives and the proximity effect. The SM4 acts more like an omnidirectional microphone in that it is very forgiving to plosives, the blast of air made by words with Ps and Bs in them. This allows you to be closer to the microphone. Being closer would also normally cause the proximity effect but the dual diaphragm also protects against this, keeping the tone of your voice more consistent through the sweet spot of the polar pattern.

The SM4 is also designed to be used on video. The low profile design looks great and doesn't cover your face even with the pop-filter in place.

Shure has also designed a Faraday cage that covers the diaphragm making it less susceptible to RF interference that you are more likely to encounter in home recording environments.

Overall the SM4 sounds great, at least on my voice. At $269 for the kit which includes the pop-filter, shockmount and carrying case, I think this mic is a great value. It provides that think you love about condensers, a full sound, while being a very well built piece of gear that also looks great.

DISCLOSURE: Shure sent this MV7+ for me to review and keep. They had no say in the making of this video. All opinions are my own and they did not get to view it before I published it.
