The Shunting Yard Algorithm (invented by Edsger Dijkstra) is amazingly useful when you want to create your own expression parsing software. For instance, if you're writing a calculator, a compiler or a scripting language, you may want it to understand mathematical expressions. The Shunting Yard is an excellent way to incorporate this functionality into your own apps.
This tutorial is a general introduction to the algorithm as well as Reverse Polish notation, which goes hand in hand with Shunting Yard. We will code a C# expression parser using this exact algorithm shortly.
It's supposed to resemble a train shunting yard. That's good, what's a train shunting yard?
Also, it's Reverse Polish, to mean Reverse People from Poland, not Reverse Shoe Polish...
