In the last few months, we've all seen a massive amount of debate over DOGE and their on-going attempts to root out waste & fraud and cut government spending within the Executive Branch. One of the most common criticisms - even from people who support reducing the state - is that the *way* Elon Musk's team is going about their task is against the rules.
But much of the expansion of government and the rise of powerful bureaucratic agencies over the past century has also been against the rules. Much of what the Federal government does today is arguably in breach of the US Constitution.
What do we do when the rules only matter when they can be deployed to protect people in power, instead of ever holding them accountable?
