In this clip, Jeff Lafferty shares the story of one of his earliest breaks into comics. A postcard for a local convention led him to pack up his oversized 18x24 pages—drawn after studying Will Eisner’s How to Draw Comics—and bring them to show Sam Kieth, then rising to fame on Wolverine and later The Max.
Jeff recalls standing in line, nervous and inexperienced, only to be met with Kieth’s kindness and encouragement. Instead of dismissing the work, Kieth saw potential and told Jeff he had the talent to pursue a career in comics. That moment of support and generosity made a lasting impact, shaping Jeff’s path as an indie creator.
