Sonic Superstars is a 2023 platform game developed by Arzest and Sonic Team and published by Sega. It features side-scrolling gameplay similar to the Sonic the Hedgehog games released for the Sega Genesis in the 1990s. As one of four player characters—Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and Amy Rose—the player completes side-scrolling levels as they set out to defeat Doctor Eggman and Fang the Hunter. Superstars introduces power-ups that the player can obtain by collecting the seven Chaos Emeralds and four-player local multiplayer.
Sonic Team's head, Takashi Iizuka, wanted to modernize Sonic's traditional side-scrolling formula so it could continue independently from the 3D games. After plans for another collaboration with the developers of Sonic Mania fell through, Iizuka began discussing a collaboration with Arzest, a studio founded by Sonic co-creator Naoto Ohshima. Development on Superstars, which marked Ohshima's first contribution to a Sonic game since Sonic Adventure, began in 2021. Arzest sought to replicate the Genesis Sonic gameplay while innovating with new game mechanics, with the Chaos Emerald powers introduced to encourage players to seek all seven.
Sonic Superstars was released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 17, 2023. It received mixed reviews from critics, who felt it was superior to the previous 2D games Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I and Episode II but inferior to Mania. They praised its replication of the Genesis-era Sonic gameplay but criticized its new mechanics, while the visuals and music were divisive. Initial sales were slightly below expectations, attributed to competition from the similar platform game Super Mario Bros. Wonder, though Sega reported it had sold well by June 2024.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond is a 2021 remake of the 2006 Nintendo DS role-playing video game Pokémon Diamond Version. The game is part of the eighth generation of the Pokémon video game series and was developed by ILCA and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch. The game was released on 19 November 2021. It was announced as part of the Pokémon 25th Anniversary event, alongside Pokémon Shining Pearl and Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It and Shining Pearl are the first main Pokémon games not to be developed by Game Freak. The game received positive reviews from critics.
Gameplay of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond is similar to the original Diamond Version, comparable to previous remakes such as FireRed and LeafGreen, HeartGold and SoulSilver, or Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The game is presented in a top-down isometric third-person perspective, though with a distinct visual style. As with the original game, Brilliant Diamond is set in the fictional region of Sinnoh, an island based on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō.
The game chronicles the adventures of a new Pokémon trainer who strives to become the Pokémon League Champion by collecting and training Pokémon. After viewing a television report about a media-conducted search for a red Gyarados, which was spotted at a faraway lake, the protagonist and their best friend, Barry, travel together to check the local lake for a Pokémon like it. They spot Professor Rowan, a Pokémon evolution researcher, and his assistant, the playable character not selected in the game. After a short discussion, the professor and his assistant leave the lake, leaving a briefcase behind. When they are attacked by a wild Starly each, the protagonist and their rival decide to examine the briefcase. They are then given a choice of one of three Pokémon found within—the Grass-type Turtwig, the Fire-type Chimchar, or the Water-type Piplup—and proceed to battle the attacking Pokémon. After defeating the Starly, Lucas or Dawn retrieves and returns the briefcase to the professor. Noticing that a bond has been forged between the young protagonist and his or her chosen Pokémon, Rowan offers it to them, asking that they embark on a journey and fill their Pokédex.
