Meditations on the Tarot: A Journey into Christian Hermeticism is a landmark work of esoteric Christianity written anonymously—commonly attributed to the Estonian-Russian mystic Valentin Tomberg—and intentionally left without an author’s name so the text could “speak for itself.” Drawing on the Tarot de Marseille, it treats each Major Arcanum as a living symbol (an arcanum) that both conceals and reveals truth through contemplation, functioning like a spiritual “ferment” that awakens the inner life. In this video, I offer a reflective, comparative reading of brief extracts from the first seven letters—The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, and The Chariot—showing how the book frames authentic esoteric practice (effortless concentration and interior silence), the movement from pure act to memory and “book,” the regenerative power of faith, hope, and love, authority grounded in mysticism, gnosis, and sacred magic, the sacramental reality of benediction, the moral decision between will-to-power and holy obedience, and the paradox of mastery and temptation in spiritual progress.
