I really wanted to spend more time talking about motor skills learning because it fits into this conversation so well. Going from:
Cognitive Stage - technique is predominated by thinking and staying aware of how limbs move through space
Associative Stage - movements become more efficient, fluid, reliable, and efficient
Autonomous Stage - movements are efficient but also require little to no thought.

Often, hearing and implementing technique advice may move a lifter down the stages rather than upward. And if you're giving unsolicited advice, probably don't do that
