When you're a low vision individual it can sometimes be a confusing and even difficult decision to decide to get training to learn blindness skills like how to use a cane, assistive technology, Braille, etc. There can be many factors involved in the decision making, or lack thereof. I'll give you my thoughts on this rather sensitive topic.
