The CBC is reporting that nearly 30,000 Canadians have signed a petition to expel Pete Hoekstra, the United States’ ambassador to Canada. Hoekstra has been criticized for supporting U.S. President Trump’s position on annexing Canada and pushing against calling Trump’s tariff strategy a “trade war.” The petition is set to be presented to parliament by Green Party leader Elizabeth May this fall. If a foreign ambassador repeatedly criticizes your country, should they be asked to leave?
