I shared the other day that there are TWO THINGS I swear by for classroom management with young artists. The first is my Open/Closed sign which helps with the long winded stories or constant comments when giving directions. Today I’m sharing my Happy/Sad board which helps my students continue to learn my classroom expectations, encourage positive behavior and deflect any behavior that causes harm or makes students feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
What I like about using this board is that it allows me to redirect behavior without embarrassment to the student. I don’t mention the student’s name but instead mention the behavior that needs redirecting. This prevents feelings from being hurt or students to feel called out and uncomfortable. The student is not the behavior…and this helps them learn that.❤️
