We had the pleasure of taking the BROWN DAVIS Ford Next-Gen Ranger Raptor out for a week, loading it up with some new LED upgrades. Already equipped with 4 x TYPE-X EVOs, Brown Davis' own underbody protection and canopy, TJM Front and rear bars, and Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform just to name a few, this rig was the perfect canvas for sporting the perfect lighting setup for their needs.
The TJM VENTURER Bull bar offers the perfect amount of real estate to mount 4 x STEDI TYPE-X EVOs, combining 2 x flood and 2 x spot, these lights are the foundation of the BROWN DAVIS Ranger Raptor for lighting up long stretches of highway whilst also giving the driver a powerful flood off to either side of the road. We love the look of two TYPE-X EVOs, but given the amount of available space, it's an absolute no-brainer to use it to its full potential by loading it up with four, giving this Raptor one tough-looking front end. To add a little personal flare, these EVOs have been customised with the STEDI Carbon Colour rings.

Complimenting the heavy-duty spread of the 4 x TYPE-X EVOs is the ST3301 41-inch LED Light Bar. Sitting sleek under the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform, we chose this light bar as not only does it fit the aesthetics of the Raptor build, but offers a powerful field of light both straight ahead and into the peripherals to keep an eye on any wandering wildlife off the road shoulders.

This low-profile work light is a stealthy option for those who want a substantial light output without the bulk attached. We chose the 5700K (white) option as it gives a fantastic spread of light in any camp or work scenario, giving you plenty of visibility when setting up camp in the dark. We mounted two per side, using the Roof Rack Brackets specific to the Micro LED Light.

Once camp's all set up and you're ready to settle into your home away from home for the night, this is where the Surface LED Rock Light (1500K) really has its moment to shine. The soft amber lighting is the perfect option when it comes to sitting down and enjoying your night, creating the perfect atmosphere against the flicker of the campfire rather than taking away from it (we've all got that one mate who stares at you with their head torch on full beam, no one needs it coming from their vehicle's camp light setup too...). These rock lights fit effortlessly into the Rhino-Rack Backbone system, screwing in easily via the Rock Light Easy Fit bracket to fit Rhino-Rack. The added bonus of opting for amber will help keep the bugs at bay whilst enjoying your evening out under the stars.

We wanted to maintain the amber touch to this camp setup when it came to the rear of the vehicle which is why we opted for the 10W Mini Amber Work Light. Still maintaining that soft colour temperature that's easy on the eyes, the 10W Mini is a more powerful option than the rock lights we chose for the side, perfect for when you need to grab something out of the back of your vehicle or prepare dinner.

Fitting seamlessly into the aesthetics of your Ford Ranger interior, the STEDI™ Switch panel provides 8 individual switches, allowing independent left and right side control over the lights you choose to use at any one time. Given the amount of LED lights the BROWN DAVIS Ranger is loaded up with, the Switch Panel was an essential piece to completing the smooth flow and ease of user accessibility when choosing the right light for the right application.

With more light, comes more features. TYPE-X EVO™accommodates 44 LEDs that reside in a 3D lens, as well as an updated heat sync technology, dissipating heat more effectively. A multi-bezel design allows for a sealing structure like no other, implementing a hidden structural seal overlayed with a perfectly proportioned outer bezel, adding depth and shadow. We have also introduced a new level of sustainability, with. a bespoke packaging design that would rival the most expensive luggage brands on the market. Each spotlight is individually packaged in a water-resistant hard case with STEDI™ filigree surrounding its every side, as well.

TYPE-X™ EVO’s daring attitude and timeless design embody a vision of tomorrow, pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible.
Upon first inspection, the silhouette and metallic bezel will catch your eye, however, delve a little deeper, and other elements will start to present themselves. The 3D primary lens will catch the most unwitting off-guard; one step into the sunshine and you will instantly recognise and understand why. Much like the modern car door, we have incorporated a 3D design to purposely reflect the glow of the sky with the upward-facing portion of the lens, as well as catch the shadows and depths of the terrain in which you are driving with the lower portion. Even the smallest of angle changes create visual magic.
The magic doesn’t stop there.
The iconic black covers have also received a next-generation improvement with tactility in mind. Much like the 3D primary lens, the black cover also draws shadow inspiration albeit with a sharper noticeable edge creating a light symphony on its piano black appearance.
Upon further inspection, you’ll also observe the STEDI™ logo has been embossed onto the cover, keeping the multi-dimensional theme consistent throughout. To us, TYPE-X™ EVO in itself is simply a sculpture of art.
TYPE-X EVO™ has arrived in a separate dedicated flood and spot beam pattern, meaning you can mix and match, and have full control of your desired beam to suit your driving style and needs. Utilising more efficient technology from CREE’s XP range of LEDs, TYPE-X EVO™ offers staggering performance in every single criteria, whilst offering the warm tones associated with the high efficacy 5000K XP LEDs.
You may be asking yourself, flood or spot?
If your style is long-range straight open roads, a pair of TYPE-X™ EVO spots may be the most suited, throwing a light beam down the road nearly as far as the eye can see.
A pair of spot beams will allow 1470m of light throw, creating a perfect light tunnel down open roads. TYPE-X™ EVO flood beam offers a tremendously wide angle flat lateral beam, positioned perfectly across the horizon. The key to its design is in the peak intensity range in the critical zone.
What is the critical zone, you ask? The critical zone is the optimal distance that you require for safely stopping from 100km/h to avoid any animal strike. You typically want at least 200-300m of perfectly placed light in front of you, and with over 475m of elongated horizontal light from a single TYPE-X™ EVO flood, you will feel safe in all situations.
Couple that with a TYPE-X™ EVO spot, and you have a match made in heaven. Promising an even more intense beam pattern, the Type-X EVO™ is the thrilling evolution of the STEDI™ legacy.
