His job as a surveyor was to monitor the buildings for movement in case of collapse. His crew and himself watched over every single firefighter, police, EMS, and person involved in the rescue and clean up efforts on Ground Zero. If a building was about to collapse, it was his responsibility to blow the horn to alert the workers so they can get to safety.
