A man was arrested after reportedly pulling a lever to open the emergency exit door of an Asiana Airlines flight in South Korea.

Viral footage shows winds buffeting rows of seated passengers as the plane comes in to land.

"It was chaos with people close to the door appearing to faint one by one and flight attendants calling out for doctors on board through broadcasting," a 44-year-old passenger told the Yonhap news agency.

The passengers also included school children who were on their way to a sporting event. The mother of one of the students said: “The children were shaking, crying and frightened. Those sitting near the exit must have been shocked the most.”

The flight arrived safely at Daegu International Airport, but with the door still open. Several passengers required hospital treatment for breathing problems.

Flight attendants could not stop the suspect from opening the door because they were seated for the plane to land. Witnesses say he even tried to jump out of the plane.

“It is difficult to have a normal conversation with him,” an official said. “We will investigate the motive of the crime and punish him.”
