It’s 29AD, and Jesus is spending his final moments of freedom HERE…in the Garden of Gethsemane.
In just a moment, one of his disciples, Judas, will lead a group of soldiers here with the intention of arresting Jesus and taking him to the high priest.
But it’s at this point that so many of the final moments of Jesus’ life begin to look different than we have been told.
For instance, when most people picture Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, they imagine him surrounded by olive trees.
But Gethsemane most likely looked very different than that. You see, the word Gethsemane isn’t just the name for this olive grove, it’s actually a Hebrew phrase.
Geth is the word for press. And semane is the word for olive. So, Gethsemane isn’t a grove of olive trees; it is where those olives are pressed. Which means that instead of being in the garden, Jesus may have been near the actual olive press.
And this is just the beginning. At each point on Jesus’ final journey, we’re going to discover something new and surprising that we’ve never seen before.
