SHOCK: AOC's OWN FANS Turn On Her... (Did She Sellout?)
AOC got an unbelievable reception at the DNC, with the entire crowd chanting her name and the crowd absolutely going nuts for her speech. The energy was truly out of the roof, and we saw an embracing that hadn't been seen before. This is a congresswoman who came in and one of the first things she did in office was attend a protest in Nancy Pelosi's office, who then traded barbs with the powerful speaker. She came in a rebel. But she clearly no longer is one.
Not only that, but reporting actually shows that actually it wasn't even AOC's idea to speak at the DNC, but rather it was the DNC that reached out to her. This further indicates the acceptance of the democratic party of her. Does this have anything to do with Nancy pelosi stepping down from her position? Who knows.
It's clear AOC has slowed down her rhetoric and become far less antagonistic towards the establishment. Many liberals and leftists are fine with this, as they view her as trying to build a voter base and constituency that would be required to pass things like Medicare For All, but some like Nathan J. Robinson of Current Affairs and Adam Johnson do not seem excited about this. In fact, in response to some praise in the Atlantic for AOC, in which they praised her for not just speaking to leftists anymore, Nathan stated: 'The Atlantic is, of course, delighted by the "New AOC," who does not challenge the party leadership and has stopped speaking like a leftist".
He does not appear happy that she's softened her rhetoric and stopped challenging the establishment as much. In addition, we can see that even Emma Vigeland of the Majority Report actually expressed disappointment in her rhetoric, stating in response to a tweet reading "AOC saying of Harris “she’s working tirelessly to secure a ceasefire in Gaza” is the only mention Gaza gets at this DNC. Sad.", "Functionally the party line. Disappointing".
It's clear there's sadness involved, especially with some of the more leftist supporters of AOC, in that she's sacrificing the current positions on that. Whether or not she still believes in them is maybe not the issue, but rather that the messaging has changed where things like Medicare For All are almost never mentioned, and they have suffered the most. Those issues have basically fallen out of the overton window, which is of course very dangerous for the viability of those policy positions, and this is largely what her old supporters are disappointed with.
However, she also has a lot of defenders who are adamant that she still believes in these positions, but that she's taking this softening because she wants to think long term to the future where there'd be enough support in government to be able to pass something like Medicare For All.
