SpaceX’s Starship Flight 13 delivered a nearly flawless performance from Ship 40—but Booster 20’s troubled landing burn may reshape the plan for Flight 14.
In this Starship Update, we break down the oxygen turbopump problem that aborted the first launch attempt, Booster 20’s successful 33-engine boostback burn, its off-nominal splashdown, and Ship 40’s remarkably successful flight. Ship 40 deployed 20 Starlink V3 satellites, completed an in-space Raptor relight, survived reentry, landed softly in the Indian Ocean—and remained floating for days afterward.
We also look ahead to Flight 14. Booster 21 and Ship 41 are already progressing through testing, and SpaceX could attempt to place Starlink V3 satellites into orbit before returning Ship 41 to Starbase for the first-ever tower catch of a Starship.
Meanwhile, work continues at Starbase and in Florida, including testing at LC-39A, the first major movements of its chopsticks, and completion of the first Starship launch tower at LC-37.
What do you think SpaceX will attempt on Flight 14: a booster catch, a Ship catch, or another ocean landing?
