Mara is not only extremely fast in the overworld but he does a lot of physical damage against you. Though the real scare is his poison because unless you completely negate poison it will inflict the status 99.9% of the time (or it did for me anyways) which not only lowers your defense but takes around 160HP for every action you take meaning it basically two shots you and it procs during magatsuhi skills as well.
