Horizon, Ordo Templi Orientis | Shimmering Chaos: The Magical Power of Art | Thelemic Arts | Horizon Lodge @horizon-oto | Uploaded June 2020 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
In this class Entelecheia leads us through an exploration of the spiritual power of art. We will consider the relationship Crowley saw between art and other forms of magick, particularly initiation and alchemy. We will see the main issue uniting these forms of magick—including the mysteries of A∴A∴ and O.T.O.—is the difference between the living and the dead. After considering these issues in light of artistic modernism, we will closely examine the structure of the formulae informing these practices, in particular IAO and VIAOV. We will see that the work of Thelemic magick revolves around a "dark star" at the core of Thelemic spirituality, the power of silence and destruction. We will conclude with a consideration of the spiritual role of art and the artist in light of this core spiritual power motivating Thelema.
Entelecheia is a Thelemite and member of Ordo Templi Orientis. His website is lapis-mercurii.org/. He also runs the Mouth of the Beast website, which is an introduction to the work of Aleister Crowley: lapis-mercurii.org/motb/.
