Shiftry has had a very rough history in competitive singles throughout the generations. Shifty has been Untiered in both gen 7 & gen 8 and has not been tiered very highly before that. Shifty did however have a notable niche in three generations of ubers as a sun abuser. While Shiftry has not been great in singles aside from its niche in Ubers, it has a received some significant buffs with its reintroduction in gen 9. While these buffs are probably not enough for Shiftry to become a top tier Pokémon in the OU tier, it has a lot of potential to become very dangerous in a lower tier, which would be a big step up from Untiered. So what makes Shiftry so potent in gen 9 compared to the other generations?
