Welcome to Flagstaff Bound, a special Cocodona 250 series brought to you by the @DistanceToEmptyPod and hosted by Kevin Goldberg and Peter Noyes.
Returning finisher and community builder Allison Powell joins the show to discuss her evolution from a theater kid to an elite ultra runner. After a survivalist 2024 race that she describes as purely Mad Max, Allison is returning with a new overarching theme for 2026: Cocodona the Musical. She shares her strategy for using specific soundtracks to manage the psychological highs and lows of 250 miles and why her new racing value is centered entirely on whimsy.
Beyond her own race plan, Allison dives into her passion for community building in Bozeman, Montana. As a leader for both the local chapter of Women in Ultra Running and Runners for Public Lands, she discusses the importance of trail stewardship, wildlife safety, and making the start line feel more accessible for women.
