Michael opened this one by telling San Diego County's sheriff that she is not six feet tall, has no cowboy hat, and does not even have a mustache. She took it well, and then told us how she got the job anyway.
She started in 1985, seven years after women were first allowed the same jobs, the same pay and the same title as men in the Sheriff's Office. Forty-one years later she is the first woman ever elected sheriff in San Diego County, one of seven women among 58 sheriffs in California.
