There’s something under the campgrounds at the Pinelands National Park.
At first, the rangers suspected that gophers or some other little critters were responsible for all of the holes surrounding Shelter 16, but gophers typically aren’t that big, nor do they sound like that.
After those hikers went missing back in ’99, the rangers decided to block off the trail to the then newly-built Shelter 16, rerouting the path to 17. That quick fix solved the “issue,” but only temporarily. Former maps of the grounds seemed to suggest that 16 was built on some kind of leveled mound.
A cemetery. Leveled in 1999.
In an effort to protect the local community and the natural wildlife in Pinelands, the rangers made a difficult decision in order to keep the things under Shelter 16 at bay.
They fed them.
It started with the occasional birthday party. They were discreet, usually for the children of smaller families, and 16 wasn’t near the other sites. No one could hear the screaming.
Once every blue moon, the rangers would allow some unsuspecting travelers to book Shelter 16. Before long, the missing persons board grew larger and larger. The cops kept coming around. They needed to stop it. They need to stop it.
They need you.
