The 1991 League Cup Final is still regarded as one of the best of all time. Manchester United, the reigning FA Cup holders, were on the verge of victory against Sheffield Wednesday, a 2nd Division side who were without a major trophy in the post war football era. A United victory was seen as a formality by some before the match but the Owls, led by former Manchester United manager Ron Atkinson and backed by over 30,000 fans, had other ideas.

Nigel Pearson, Nigel Worthington and David Hurst, now legendary names in the corridors of Hillsbrough were just some of the players that graced the field, but the day belonged to John Sheridan who, in the greatest moment of his career, rifled home a sweetly struck volley to send the Wednesday fans into delirium, and the team up the famous Wembley steps to collect the Rumbelows Cup.

Sheffield Wednesday, still the last team from below the elite division to collect a major trophy, made history that day. This incredible achievement was matched by a performance that is still remembered decades later.

Enjoy every minute of this pulsating final and relive the emotion as Nigel Pearson leads the team up the steps to lift the League Cup trophy.
