She Traveled to K1ll Her Family Friends
In July of 2005, 23-year-old Tiffany Ann Cole; her boyfriend, Michael James Jackson, and co-conspirators Alan Wade and Bruce Nixon drove from South Carolina to the Jacksonville, Florida home of Cole’s longtime family friends Carol and Reggie Sumner. Wade and Nixon went to the front door and asked to use the phone, and were let inside by the unsuspecting Sumners, who were both 61 years old at the time. Armed with a real-looking toy gun and duct tape, the men bound, gagged, and blindfolded the couple, then began searching the home for valuables and financial documents. After ransacking the house, Wade and Nixon forced the Sumners into the trunk of the couple’s Lincoln Town Car, then drove it to a remote wooded area in southern Georgia while Cole and Jackson followed behind in a separate vehicle. Tiffany Cole and Bruce Nixon acted as lookouts along the roadside while Michael Jackson and Alan Wade buried the Sumners alive in a grave that had been dug two days earlier in anticipation of the crime. Investigators quickly tracked down three of the suspects through their use of the victims’ ATM cards and arrested them on suspicion of mvrder. Bruce Nixon cooperated with law enforcement and led them to the location of the Sumners’ bodies. He pleaded guilty to a reduced second-degree mvrder charge and received a 45-year prison sentence. Michael Jackson, Alan Wade, and Tiffanie Cole took their cases to trial and were all found guilty and sentenced to death. They won new sentencing hearings in 2017 after a new law went into effect requiring unanimous jury verdicts in death sentence cases. Jackson was resentenced to death, while Wade and Cole were given life sentences without parole.
