My friend chirping mermaid house hacked for several years in San Francisco and I interviewed her about her experience. The principle is to rent a place but fill it with a lot of roommates that eventually can pay the entire price. Hence, the person managing everything could potentially live rent free or perhaps even make money doing so. The amount of time to manage things is not negligible so it's in a way 'working' to get free free. However, the way it is done can make a huge difference if becomes a simple business deal or it can be a way to live in a happy community you build yourself.

I tested out Enjoybots self-heating battery. It works by using only energy from your charger of 4-6 amps and heat the battery until it is warm. It then stops the heating and continues charging as normal. I also did a capacity test along with maximum load test. It appears to do a cut off 5-10 seconds after you go over around 5% of maximum. Built with grade A prismatic cells and a 200 Amp BMS, it uses a dual 6 awg cable internally that can withstand heat up to 200C. Overall, it has excellent build quality with 3 separate temperature sensors for redundancy. Per usual, it also has battery balancing.

I tested out this Engwe Engine Pro 2.0 ebike and tried to fit it into the trunk of my Model 3. It actually needed me to remove the handle bars to fit and it was a pain to put back on because the internal rings will all fall out. I would not recommend to take off the handle bar to fit it. You would need a bigger car to fully fit this in the trunk like an SUV instead.
Besides the size, the ebike was almost too fast at 28mph when pedaling. I like how the pedal assist works on its own without you pushing the throttle at all. On PAS level 5 (pedal assist), it helps you out the most and allows you to go 28mph with minimal effort. If you want to increase your effort as well as maximize your range, you can dial it down to level 4 to 1. On PAS 0, there is no pedal assist and works like. a regular bike.
The fat tires and shock absorption makes for a very smooth ride, much smoother than say a mountain bike with shocks. It almost feels squishy in a good way.
