Five years since the last U.S. airplane left Afghanistan and the Taliban returned to power, Hari Sreenivasan speaks to one woman whose life was shaped by that history. Mursal Rahim was born in 1996 under the repressive Taliban government and lived through the U.S. invasion in 2001 that brought life-changing reforms to her and to women all over the country. She came of age in a unique window where women were allowed to get an education in Afghanistan, but when the Taliban returned to power upon America’s exit in 2021, Rahim and her family fled the country at a moment's notice with only what they could carry. She tells Hari Sreenivasan about that experience, and why she feels a moral responsibility to the Afghan women left behind.
