Shawna Lemay's new book Apples on a Windowsill is about a life in "still life." An illustrious, unique figure in the Alberta arts world, Shawna is a prolific and eclectic creator; she's renowned as a poet, novelist, essayist, blogger, and photographer.
Apples on a Windowsill is a series of meditations upon her own life in art, as well as her life with an artist! Her husband is a painter, and for more than a quarter-century, they've shared an abiding interest in the classic, sometimes-overlooked form of the still life, an artistic tradition of visually depicting simple (generally inanimate) objects, arrayed in a casual or homey manner. Like, say, apples on a windowsill.
Shawna joined Grant Stovel to shed some light on still life, and to share some of the powerful, poetic wisdom of Apples on a Windowsill.
