State police said Fairman shot Richard Shotts, 55, after Shotts intervened in a dispute between Fairman and Shotts' daughter, Jessica, on June 3 in North Mahoning Township.Police said Fairman -- armed with a rifle and a handgun -- went to his wife's home on Route 210 just before 1 a.m. and was confronted by Richard Shotts, who also had a gun.
Authorities allege that Fairman went to the home immediately after receiving divorce papers,despite a protection order his wife had obtained. Shotts' widow said she heard her husband trying to reason with Fairman before the shooting. Fairman searched the home until he found his wife in a bedroom. She too was armed and shot Fairman in the shoulder and bicep, police said. She held him in the house until troopers arrived and arrested him on a homicide charge.
